Text from photos
Capture text with the camera or from a photo, crop to the part you want, and the recognized text lands in the note. Optional AI clean-up.
Updated for iOS 1.65
Text from photos
Design Intent: A photo of a whiteboard, a menu or a page becomes text you can edit, in the note you are already in.
Capturing
- Capture text on the Quickbar opens the camera; Text from image picks from your photo library. The Orb menu's Image and Camera make a new note the same way, as do the Photo Note widget and the Capture Text control.
- A Crop step follows straight over the photo: drag any corner around the text you want (drag inside the box to move the whole thing), Reset to start over, then Continue. The recognized text is inserted at the cursor ("Extracted text").
- On iPad, dropping an image from Photos, Files or Safari onto a note runs the same crop and recognition, with the text inserted where you dropped it.
- Pasting a picture attaches it by default. With Settings › Editor › Pasting › Extract text from pasted images on, a picture pasted on its own is recognized straight away (no crop step) and its text lands at the cursor.
- Recognition runs on the device. Optionally the result can be tidied by your AI provider: Settings › AI › OCR cleanup prompt › Polish extracted text.
- Text from photos is part of the Lifetime license.
