Gestures
Pull past the top or bottom, two-finger tap and swipe on the note, swipe or hold the Orb — each gesture runs an action you choose in Settings › Gestures. On iPad, the pointer and Apple Pencil join in.
Updated for iOS 1.65
Gestures
Design Intent: Every gesture does one thing you chose. Nothing is hidden behind a gesture you did not set up.
Note gestures
- Pull down past the top — default: Search.
- Pull up past the bottom — default: Go to latest.
- Two-finger tap — default: Toggle ephemeral/slotted.
- Two-finger swipe left / right — default: None.
- Release a pull when the badge lights up. Pulls answer to a finger or an Apple Pencil only; a trackpad or mouse scrolling past the edge never fires one. Three-finger swipes are iOS's own undo and redo.
- Pinch the note to step the text size up or down.
Orb swipe gestures
- Swipe up — default: New note.
- Swipe right — default: Go to latest.
- Swipe left — default: Select mode (see Select mode).
- Press and hold — default: Copy (the selection if there is one, otherwise the whole note).
- Swipe up-left, swipe up-right, swipe down — default: None. Assign them in Settings › Gestures.
- A swipe with nothing assigned to it opens the Orb menu, the same as a tap. Swipe down counts as anything within 45° of straight down; a steeper sideways-and-down drag belongs to no gesture and opens the menu too.
- Orb gestures are part of the Lifetime license; note gestures are free.
Pointer and Pencil
- With a trackpad or mouse on iPad, the pointer highlights and lifts buttons, the Orb and Quickbar as it passes over them, and taps and swipes work as they do with a finger. Scrolling with the trackpad scrolls the note only.
- Apple Pencil double-tap enters or leaves Select mode. Squeeze (Pencil Pro) opens or closes the Orb menu.
- Both follow the Pencil's own setting in iPadOS Settings › Apple Pencil: any "do something" choice runs the Antinote action, Off does nothing, and a system shortcut is left to iPadOS.
What a gesture can do
- App: Go to latest, Search, Browse archived, The Void, Toggle ephemeral/slotted, Settings; New note, New note from clipboard / image / camera / audio; Share note, Read aloud, Lock/unlock note, Toggle read-only, Archive note, Delete note; Undo, Redo.
- Quick actions: anything a Quickbar button can do — special keyboards, dictation and capture, text transforms, list operations, formatting, your text snippets and quick commands. Split view, Split direction and Swap main pane aren't offered on iPhone.
- Gesture choices sync between your iPhones and iPads when preference sync is on (Settings › Sync & privacy › What syncs › Gestures).
