Read aloud
Antinote reads a note aloud with an Apple voice, the on-device Kokoro voice, or a voice provider you connect, and keeps going in the background.
Updated for iOS 1.65
Read aloud
Design Intent: Your notes, spoken, while your hands and eyes are elsewhere.
Using it
- Choose Read aloud from the Orb menu or the Quickbar. It speaks the selection, or from the cursor to the end of the note, and keeps going in the background and on the lock screen.
- A playback pill offers Stop reading and Keep reading; it shows Paused when interrupted.
- Read aloud is part of the Lifetime license.
Voices
- Apple voice — offline, including a Personal Voice if you have made one.
- Kokoro (on-device) — a natural voice that runs on the phone after a one-time download of about 350 MB. Play a sample before you commit; the Download Kokoro button fills up as the download runs, and a game of snake appears above the voices meanwhile (swipe the orb to steer; every bite makes it a little faster) and stays once the download is done. Settings › Tutorials › Games brings back any download game you have seen.
- Voice provider — OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Groq, LemonFox, or a custom endpoint speaking OpenAI's /audio/speech format, with your own key. Choosing it first lists your voice providers and any OpenAI or custom AI provider keys (one tap reuses the key for voices), then Add another provider. Adding one is step by step: pick the service, get a key, paste it, then pick a voice and model.
- Until a voice is chosen, Settings › Read aloud shows Set up read-aloud voice, which opens the same setup sheet as the first Read aloud tap. Afterwards it shows the voice engine and voice, Speaking speed, and Change voice (the same sheet).
