iCloud sync

Notes and preferences sync end-to-end encrypted through your private iCloud database, with no account. Choose which preference groups travel in What syncs.

Updated for iOS 1.65

iCloud sync

Design Intent: Your notes on every device, end-to-end encrypted, with no Antinote account. iCloud is the only server involved.

Notes

  • Settings › Sync & privacy › Sync notes with iCloud. Notes, checklists and slotted notes sync between your iPhones, iPads and Macs signed into the same Apple Account, encrypted in your private iCloud database.
  • If two devices edit the same line of a note, the newest synced version wins in place and the other is kept as a sync conflict attached to the note, never lost and never pasted into it. A warning icon appears at the top right of a note that has one, beside the note's other state marks; tap it to see the conflicting copy with the differing lines highlighted and choose what to do: Ignore deletes the conflicting copy and keeps the current note, Append entire conflicting copy adds the whole copy to the bottom of the note, Append lines adds only the highlighted lines, and Replace with conflicting copy replaces the note with it (shake to undo while the note is open). Resolving it on one device clears it everywhere.
  • When iCloud itself is in the way, Antinote says so instead of quietly stopping: a dialog the first time (for example when Apple wants you to sign in again or accept new terms, when there is no iCloud account, when iCloud storage is full, or when something on Antinote's side is wrong), a short pill, and a line at the top of Settings › Sync & privacy that stays until the next successful sync. Being offline or iCloud being briefly busy only shows the line. Sync picks up again by itself once the cause is cleared.
  • The onboarding notes never sync — each device keeps its own.
  • Sync across devices is part of the Lifetime license.

Preferences

  • Sync preferences with iCloud carries your settings along. What syncs chooses the groups: Note behavior, Appearance, General, Keywords, Math, Timers, Export, Copy and paste, Syntax highlighting, Mac integration, Gestures, Keyboard bar, iPad keyboard shortcuts, Dictation and voice, AI (your custom prompts, AI request context, magic words, polish and photo cleanup prompts), Extension usage history. These choices apply to this device only.
  • Sync extensions with iCloud (custom extensions included) and Sync extension usage history (which powers “Recently used” in autocomplete) sit here too; they are the same switches as in Settings › Extensions.
  • iPad keyboard shortcuts carries the core commands (new note, search, slots and the rest); quick-action keys stay on the iPad you set them on.
  • Mac-only settings travel between Macs; iOS-only settings between iPhones and iPads. Window positions, API keys, licences and onboarding state never sync.
