Updated for iOS 1.65
AI features
Design Intent: Bring your own key. Beyond a small demo to get you started, Antinote has no AI account and no server in the middle — your text goes to the provider you chose and nowhere else.
Providers
- First-run setup offers the same choice up front: Add a key and choose a model picks a service, checks the key and suggests a fast model for the onboarding (change it there, or per task later). See Getting started.
- Settings › AI › Providers › Add provider. Pick a service — Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, OpenCode Go, xAI, Mistral, Soniox or a Custom Provider — then follow the steps: Get a key opens that service's key page in your browser; Paste the key here takes it (there is a paste button) and checks it straight away, reporting "Key works — N models available"; Pick a model suggests the service's fast, inexpensive model and lists the rest. Features that don't have a provider yet (or are using the demo) start on the new one with that model; features already on Apple Intelligence or another key stay where they are. Each entry is one API key with an optional nickname, stored in the Keychain. Apple Intelligence needs no key.
- OpenCode Go is one subscription for models from many labs, and each model answers on its own kind of API. Antinote looks up which one on models.dev, the catalog OpenCode's own app uses, so models OpenCode adds work without an Antinote update.
- Each task picks its own provider and model: Editor AI, Dictation cleanup prompt, OCR cleanup prompt, AI requests and Extensions.
- The first time a task would send text to a provider, a consent sheet says exactly where it is going; nothing leaves the phone until you tap I understand.
- AI features are part of the Lifetime license. Apple Intelligence runs on the device; the others use the network.
Hiding AI entirely
- Settings › AI › Hide AI features takes every AI button and setting out of the app: the Quickbar's Polish text and Custom prompts, dictation clean-up and magic words, photo-capture clean-up, and the rest of the AI page. Nothing you set up is deleted; turn the switch off to bring it all back. The Quickbar's button sheet says so at its foot (“AI-related actions are hidden, as you asked”) with the way back, so the missing tiles never read as a bug.
- Choosing I don't want AI features during first-run setup turns this on. It syncs with preferences, so an iPhone and an iPad agree.
Settings
The Antinote demo provider
- To try AI clean-up without an account, pick Antinote demo: a few dictation clean-ups and a few photo-capture clean-ups per device, on us. It appears in Settings › AI › Providers while it is available, and the dictation setup offers it under Polish with when nothing else is set up. Tap Use (or Continue in setup) and a consent sheet explains that, unlike a provider you connect yourself, the demo sends your text through antinote.io before it reaches the AI service. On the first-run setup's AI page, the line under the cards says where the text goes and its Details link opens the same explanation before you choose the demo card.
- The demo only polishes dictation and photo captures. Editor prompts, voice requests and extensions need a provider of your own.
- Your text goes to antinote.io, which forwards it to OpenRouter, running OpenAI's gpt-4.1-mini today, and keeps none of it. The consent sheet, the first-run setup's Details link and Settings › Network access all name the current service and model, straight from the server, so a switch shows up without an app update. antinote.io stores only a random key this device made and how many calls it has used, so the free ones can be counted.
- When the credits are gone, a sheet says so and offers Add your own provider. Dictation and captures keep working as-is in the meantime. You can switch to your own provider at any time, credits left or not, and Antinote may switch the demo off without an update.
Polish text
- The Polish text button rewrites the whole note with an editable prompt (Settings › AI › “Polish text” prompt). Undo brings the original back.
Custom prompts
- Settings › AI › Custom Prompts › New Prompt… — a title, the prompt, and whether the result is inserted at the cursor or replaces the note.
- Your prompts appear on the Custom prompts keyboard, alongside Quick Prompt for a one-off instruction.
- A fresh install starts with one prompt, "Turn into plan" (the tour runs it on your dictated hopes). Edit or delete it like any other; it only comes back with a factory reset.
AI requests by voice
- Say the magic words during dictation and what follows is treated as a request about the note; the answer lands in the note or is read aloud. AI request context controls how much of the note goes along; Request settings picks the provider and whether answers are read aloud. See Dictation.
